Holy Matchmaker – Book Review

I ordered this book on Kindle earlier today, with some misgivings, wondering if I would enjoy it. I started reading and was absolutely blown away by this compelling, beautiful and exceptionally well-written story. I felt like it had transported me into another world, and I loved it. I fell in love with not just Jakob and Emma, but the supporting characters as well. I live close to an Amish community and have enjoyed limited contact with them, but this was wonderful, and I felt as if I’d been given a wonderful insight and education to their lifestyle, beliefs and culture. I loved the way the author used the Amish language for many words and put them in italics so the reader would understand they were meant to be this way.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW!

My only complaint about this book was at the end – I would have loved to read another entire story about Emma and Jakob’s early years together. As delighted as I was to read that they did indeed have children, I was hungry for more of these wonderful characters and their life together. I would have loved to hear what animals they had on their farm.
I highly recommend this book and will be looking for more stories by this author. What a wonderful story. I wish I could award it ten stars! (less)
